Central to our outreach approach is a focus on youth sports - an undervalued area of development highlighted by UNESCO as a key tool for empowering communities. Sports bring entire villages together - from the youths that attend our bi-weekly training sessions, to the parents and fans that gather to support the teams in their competitive games.
Every participant community involved with our project is guaranteed a fully-funded football and netball pitch and team. Currently, we have 8 football teams (A teams and B teams), and 4 netball teams, organised into a competitive district-level sports league. Our community-led coaching plays a fundamental role in bringing together rural youths, with the provision of physical education, physical activity, and competitive sports contributing to the impartation of essential soft-skills such as teamwork, solidarity, respect, and self-confidence - all of which are critical to building cohesive youth social enterprise groups.
Additionally, by establishing and empowering local youth leadership structures, equipped with permanent sports facilities and a reliable source of team income and equipment - the impact and reach is able to extend far beyond our project into other age groups, for generations to come.
